Kadence Blocks Review 2026: Gutenberg Blocks With AI Writing and an AI Design Library
Kadence Blocks is a Gutenberg block toolkit enhanced with Kadence AI: custom design blocks that rival a page builder, an inline AI editor that rewrites and generates text inside your blocks, and an AI-powered Design Library that assembles patterns matched to your brand. The free plugin is at version 3.8.1 on WordPress.org, installed on 600,000+ sites and rated 4.8 out of 5 from 333 reviews. The free version is genuinely capable — but the paid route changed completely in late 2026 and now starts at $350 a year.
What it is
Kadence Blocks (now sold through Liquid Web, which hosts its product page after kadencewp.com began redirecting there) extends the block editor WordPress already ships with. Instead of bolting on a separate front-end builder, it adds design-grade blocks and controls directly inside Gutenberg: a Row Layout block for nested, responsive layouts, an Advanced Gallery, forms, tabs, accordions, testimonials, countdowns and a Table of Contents, plus per-block spacing, typography (900+ Google Fonts) and colour controls most block libraries reserve for paid tiers. It works with any theme, and only loads the CSS and JavaScript for blocks actually used on a page — Kadence calls this Intelligent Load, and it is why Kadence sites tend to stay fast where traditional builders bloat.
Kadence AI sits inside that workflow in three places. The Advanced Text block carries an inline AI editor that can generate text, improve writing, fix spelling and grammar, and change tone or length without leaving the block. The Design Library is AI-powered: hundreds of pre-built patterns and pages tailored to your brand, so a new page starts from a relevant layout instead of a blank canvas. And Kadence AI adds smart keyword optimisation to the copy workflow. The October 2026 releases kept moving: version 3.8 added a Style Library design system (set colours, typography, spacing and shadows once, apply everywhere), and 3.8.0.2 added Croatian, Estonian, Polish and Slovak support to Kadence AI.
Key features
- Inline AI text editor. Generate, rewrite, shorten, lengthen and re-tone copy inside the Advanced Text block, with grammar and spelling fixes — AI where you are already writing, not in a separate app.
- AI Design Library. Hundreds of pre-built patterns and page sections matched to your brand (800+ patterns on the premium library), assembled in the editor as normal, editable blocks.
- Design-grade free blocks. Row Layout with nested columns, Advanced Gallery and forms, tabs, accordions, testimonials, countdowns, Lottie animations and a posts grid — the free plugin provides 16+ blocks with responsive controls per device.
- Style Library design system. New in the 3.8 series: define colours, typography, spacing, borders, shadows and block presets once and apply them consistently across every Kadence block.
- Performance-first output. Intelligent Load ships only the assets each page’s blocks need — the opposite of a builder that loads everything everywhere.
- 1,500+ SVG icons and deep styling. Gradients, overlays, parallax backgrounds and configurable block defaults, so repeated blocks arrive pre-styled.
Pricing
The free plugin costs $0 on WordPress.org and is a real design toolkit, not a demo: the block library, the inline AI text editor, responsive controls and the standard Design Library are free. Paid pricing is where you must read the vendor’s current page, not older reviews. As of 1 November 2026, Liquid Web’s Kadence page sells Kadence only one way: pick a number of sites; everything else is included. Every plan bundles Kadence with Give (donations), The Events Calendar and LearnDash (courses) — there are no feature tiers left to choose between.
The site-count ladder is: 1 site for $350 a year, 10 sites for $599 a year ($59.90 per site), 25 sites for $799 a year ($31.96 per site), 50 sites for $899 a year ($17.98 per site) and 100 sites for $999 a year ($9.99 per site). The bundle also carries the wider Kadence platform the page describes: premium starter templates, Shop Kit for WooCommerce, memberships, a real-time security firewall with 2FA, and daily backups.
What the pricing page doesn’t make obvious: most existing coverage — including prices quoted as recently as October 2026 — lists an Essentials plan at $99 a year or a standalone Blocks Pro licence. Neither exists on the vendor’s page today: the standalone licence is gone, the page’s own FAQ still names retired Pro and Elite tiers its pricing section no longer sells, and the cheapest paid route to the premium blocks is now a $350-a-year four-product bundle. If you only want better Gutenberg blocks for one site, that repricing — not the feature list — is the decision.
Who it’s for
- Block-editor loyalists who want page-builder design control — rows, galleries, forms, popups-style layouts — while staying in native Gutenberg and keeping clean, fast output.
- Bloggers and small businesses on the free tier who will use the inline AI editor and Design Library to publish better-looking pages without buying anything.
- Agencies and portfolio builders for whom the bundle maths flips: at 25–100 sites the per-site cost falls to $31.96–$9.99 a year, and the bundled courses, events and donations tools may genuinely replace other licences.
What to watch out for
- Single-site buyers subsidise a bundle. One site costs $350 a year whether or not you ever touch Give, The Events Calendar or LearnDash. Price it against what you actually need.
- The AI assists; it does not build the site for you. Kadence AI generates and polishes text and seeds layouts from the Design Library. It is not an agentic builder that produces finished pages from a prompt in the way Elementor’s newest AI markets itself.
- Pricing has changed repeatedly in 2026. Kadence changed owners, plan names and prices several times this year, and the vendor page’s FAQ still references retired Pro and Elite tiers. Recheck the live page before budgeting, and do not trust any review quoting $99.
- Premium patterns are the upsell. The free Design Library is a starter set; the 800+ pattern library and Pro blocks (Advanced Slider, Modal, Split Content, dynamic content) sit behind the paid bundle.
- Research-based review. This review is based on Kadence Blocks’ WordPress.org listing and Liquid Web’s own Kadence product and pricing page, both read on 1 November 2026; we have not rebuilt a client site on the 3.8 release ourselves.
Pros
- Page-builder design depth inside the native editor, with fast, per-block asset loading.
- Inline AI writing help and an AI-matched Design Library in the free workflow.
- Huge, current install base (600,000+) and a 4.8-star WordPress.org rating.
- At agency scale the bundle’s per-site price collapses to under $10–$32 a year.
Cons
- No standalone paid tier anymore: premium blocks start at $350 a year for one site, bundled with three other products.
- Pricing and plan names churned repeatedly through 2026; older guides are actively misleading.
- AI is copy-and-pattern assistance, not full-page generation from a prompt.
- The full 800+ pattern library and Pro blocks are paid-only.
Frequently asked questions
Is Kadence Blocks free?
Yes. The WordPress.org plugin is free with the core block library, responsive design controls, the inline AI text editor and the standard Design Library. Premium blocks, the 800+ pattern library and the wider Kadence platform are paid.
How does Kadence AI work?
Kadence AI works inside your blocks: the Advanced Text block’s inline editor generates and rewrites copy (tone, length, grammar), the Design Library uses AI to surface patterns matched to your brand, and AI assists with keyword optimisation. Recent releases route AI requests through a server-side proxy and keep adding supported languages.
Can I still buy Kadence Blocks Pro on its own?
No. On Liquid Web’s Kadence page as of 1 November 2026 there is no standalone Blocks Pro licence and no Essentials plan: Kadence is sold only in a bundle with Give, The Events Calendar and LearnDash, priced by sites — $350 a year for 1 site down to $999 a year for 100 sites.
