ChatGPT’s Meetings Plugin Now Handles the Follow-Up, Not Just the Notes

October 7, 2026.

Bottom line: ChatGPT’s new Meetings plugin just grew teeth. It no longer only writes your meeting notes — it suggests action items and lets you kick off the actual follow-up work (drafting an email, updating a project plan) right from the meeting page.

What happened

OpenAI’s Meetings plugin — in beta inside the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS for Pro and Business users — can now turn meeting discussions into suggested action items and follow-up work, not just summaries. After a call, ChatGPT builds a personalized summary from the transcript, your notes, and context from connected apps, then proposes tasks like drafting a follow-up email or updating a project plan. You review and edit each suggested item, then start the work with a single click using ChatGPT Work, which can carry it out rather than leaving you with another to-do list.

How it works

The plugin listens through your Mac’s microphone and system audio, so it covers online calls and in-person discussions alike — with no bot joining the meeting. OpenAI says the audio is deleted once the notes are generated, and the results are saved as a private page in ChatGPT Space, which you can keep private or share with the team. Calendar integration (Google Calendar and Outlook) means ChatGPT can remind you about upcoming meetings and prompt you to start or stop taking notes — and it can even detect you’re in a call that isn’t on your connected calendar.

Availability is still narrow: beta on macOS for Pro and Business plans (Business users need their workspace admin to enable both ChatGPT Space and the plugin), a limited alpha for Enterprise, and Windows, iOS, and Android support is “coming soon.” It’s rolling out gradually, so it may not be on your account yet.

Why it matters

AI note-takers are a crowded field — Granola, Wispr’s Notetaker, and dozens more. ChatGPT’s edge is context: because it already knows your projects, your history, and your files, the jump from “here are the action items” to “I already started the follow-up” is a real moat. The tested-view caveat: notes are the easy part; the value lives or dies on whether the suggested follow-up work is accurate enough to trust without heavy editing — and on OpenAI’s audio-deletion promise holding up for the privacy-conscious. If you’re already paying for Pro or Business, this is one more reason the subscription math keeps tilting in your favor.

FAQ

Who can use the ChatGPT Meetings plugin?
Pro and Business users on the macOS desktop app, in beta and rolling out gradually. Enterprise is in a limited alpha.

Does it send a bot into my meetings?
No — it uses your Mac’s microphone and system audio, so nothing joins the call, and it also works for in-person meetings.

Is my meeting audio stored?
OpenAI says the audio is deleted once the notes are generated. The summary and action items live in ChatGPT Space, private or shared at your choice.

When is Windows support coming?
OpenAI says Windows, iOS, and Android support is coming soon; no date has been given.
