TTSWP Review 2026: ElevenLabs Narration for WordPress With an Accessible Player

TTSWP (listed on WordPress.org as Text to Speech – TTSWP) turns WordPress posts, pages and WooCommerce product descriptions into MP3 audio using ElevenLabs voices, generating files automatically when you publish and playing them back through a player the vendor describes as WCAG 2.1 AA accessible. The plugin is on WordPress.org (version 3.3.41, updated November 2026, 200+ active installs, rated 5.0 out of 5 from 6 ratings). One credit equals one character of input text, and the free plan starts you with 10,000 welcome credits.

Bottom line: TTSWP is the ElevenLabs-only route to a listen option on WordPress: 600+ voices on paid plans, automatic generation on publish, and a $29-a-year Pro Lite tier for people who already pay ElevenLabs. Read the credit rules first — the free credits are a one-time allowance, monthly plan credits do not roll over, and subscriptions are not refundable.

What it is

TTSWP connects WordPress to ElevenLabs and handles the API connection, audio generation and file storage in the background. Install the free plugin from WordPress.org, and audio can be generated automatically the moment a post is published, or generated on a visitor’s first view on paid plans. Generated files are stored locally on your server on the free plan, or served from the vendor’s S3 and CloudFront setup on regular Pro, so repeat plays cost nothing — credits are spent on generation, retries and re-generation, never on a visitor pressing Play.

The player is the other half of the pitch. TTSWP ships a player built to WCAG 2.1 AA, with real-time colour customisation, and paid plans add a sticky footer player and waveform progress bar. It supports six page builders, CSS selectors and a no-audio class for keeping boilerplate out of narration, and multilingual setups through WPML, Polylang, Weglot and TranslatePress. WooCommerce product narration is a paid-plan feature.

Key features

  • ElevenLabs voices, one provider deep. Standard voices in 30+ languages on Free; paid plans unlock 600+ voices in 90+ languages, premium Neural and cloned voices, and all five ElevenLabs models including V4 and V4 Turbo.
  • Automatic and bulk generation. Auto-generate on publish on every plan; Pro adds auto-generate on first visit and bulk generation of up to 1,000 posts, while Agency raises that to 5,000 posts a day.
  • Bring your own key, free on every plan. Connect your own ElevenLabs API key even on Free; when TTSWP credits run out, generation falls back to your key instead of stopping. A free ElevenLabs account itself includes 10,000 characters a month.
  • Voice cloning and speech-to-text (paid plans). Pro adds voice cloning, Speech-to-Text, SSML support, custom pauses and custom intro and outro audio.

Pricing

The Free plan costs nothing and needs no credit card: 10,000 welcome credits (one-time), standard voices in 30+ languages, auto-generate on publish, the accessible player, local audio storage and free BYOK. Pro is $49 a year (shown as $4.08 a month billed yearly) with monthly credits — the comparison table puts Pro tiers at 50,000 to 1,000,000 credits a month — plus the full voice catalogue, bulk generation, S3 and CloudFront storage, the sticky footer and waveform players, voice cloning, speech-to-text and WooCommerce narration. Agency is $690 a year with 250,000 to 5,000,000 monthly credits, white-label rebranding, cross-site credit pooling, a multi-site dashboard and resell rights. One-time top-up packs from 25,000 to 1,000,000 credits are also sold, and they never expire. Prices are in USD and exclude VAT.

What the pricing page doesn’t make obvious: there is a fourth plan the main comparison table buries. Pro Lite costs $29 a year and gives you every Pro feature — voice cloning, speech-to-text, sticky footer, waveform, SSML — but zero TTSWP credits: all generation runs through your own ElevenLabs key, audio stores locally only with no managed S3 or CloudFront, and it is annual billing only with no monthly option. If you already pay ElevenLabs, Pro Lite is the cheapest way to buy the Pro feature set. The page’s FAQ also states the hard rules plainly: monthly plan credits do not roll over — they reset on your billing date — and subscriptions are not refundable, though unused top-up packs are refundable within 14 days.

Who it’s for

  • Bloggers and content sites adding a listen option — automatic narration on publish with no recording workflow.
  • Existing ElevenLabs customers — Pro Lite at $29 a year, or free BYOK on any plan, puts the voices you already pay for inside WordPress.
  • Accessibility-focused sites — a WCAG 2.1 AA player and audio versions of long articles for visitors who prefer to listen.

What to watch out for

  • The free credits are one-time, not monthly. The 10,000 welcome credits are a starter allowance; at roughly 30,000 credits for a 5,000-word post by the vendor’s own maths, they will not narrate even one long article in full.
  • Monthly credits expire. Plan credits reset on your billing date with no rollover, so unused allowance is lost — generate before the cycle ends or lean on top-ups, which never expire.
  • Single-provider dependency. Every voice comes from ElevenLabs; if its pricing or models change, TTSWP changes with them. Multi-provider rivals such as GSpeech spread that risk.
  • A small install base. 200+ active installs and 6 ratings is a modest public record for a version 3.3 plugin, even at a 5.0-star average.
  • Research-based review. This review is based on TTSWP’s WordPress.org listing and the vendor’s own site and pricing page; we have not run it on a live site ourselves.

Pros

  • Deep ElevenLabs integration: 600+ voices, all five models, voice cloning and speech-to-text on paid plans.
  • BYOK works free on every plan, so your own ElevenLabs credits stack on top of TTSWP credits.
  • Pro Lite is a genuinely cheap $29-a-year route to the full Pro feature set for existing ElevenLabs users.
  • No overage fees — when credits run out, top-ups or your own key take over and existing audio keeps playing.

Cons

  • Free plan’s 10,000 credits are one-time and cover only a short post or two.
  • Monthly credits do not roll over, and subscriptions are not refundable.
  • ElevenLabs only — no OpenAI, Google or Azure voice alternatives inside the plugin.

Frequently asked questions

Is TTSWP free?

The plugin and Free plan cost nothing and include 10,000 welcome credits, standard voices in 30+ languages, auto-generation on publish and the accessible player. Those credits are one-time, not a monthly allowance; ongoing narration needs a paid plan, top-up packs, or your own ElevenLabs key, which is free to connect on every plan.

How does TTSWP compare with GSpeech?

In Tested Intelligence’s own GSpeech review, GSpeech’s free plan includes 50,000 machine-voice characters every month and its paid plans mix OpenAI, Gemini and Google Cloud voices. TTSWP’s free allowance is smaller and one-time, but its paid voices are ElevenLabs throughout — pick TTSWP for ElevenLabs voice quality and BYOK, GSpeech for a recurring free allowance and multiple voice providers.

What happens when I run out of credits?

TTSWP never charges overage fees. You can buy a top-up pack (which never expires and only kicks in once monthly credits are empty), let generation fall back to your own ElevenLabs key, or wait for the next monthly reset. Audio already generated keeps playing either way.
