What happened: Magnific launched Magnific One, an image generation model that settles a picture’s art direction before generating it — plus Brand Kit, which extracts a team’s visual identity and applies it to every image the model makes. Why it matters: It is a direct shot at the biggest complaint about AI image tools: they obey your prompt but ignore your taste.
What Magnific One does
Most image models aim for prompt fidelity: describe a picture, get that picture. Magnific One takes a different approach — it reads a simple prompt and makes the art-direction calls itself, aiming for what the company calls “the picture you would have arrived at with a good art director in the room.” Magnific, formerly Freepik, says it spent 15 years building creative tools and describes taste as a responsibility.
The model offers two modes. Draft turns one idea into a grid of 4, 8, or 16 art directions for exploration, with fewer images returning more detail in each. Final produces a single deliverable image — 2K High by default, up to 4K and Max. Brand Kit takes effect in Final mode: given a website, a brand guidelines PDF, a few images, or a written description, an agent extracts the logo, palette, typography, imagery, and tone, then applies the kit to every image the team generates and flags anything off-brand.
The details
A Styles feature lets users upload one to five reference images sharing a palette, texture, or technique, and the look holds across both modes. For finishing, Auto Layers splits a generated image into editable layers, the Designer tool offers full vector control, and short editing lines fix specific problems — yellowed whites, exact text reproduction, relighting — without regenerating the image. Magnific One is available immediately on all Magnific paid plans worldwide, on web, desktop, and mobile apps, and through the Magnific MCP, which lets users call the model from an AI assistant. The company says it never trains AI on user data and that everything created on the platform stays private.
For launch week, Magnific is offering seven days of unlimited Magnific One generation at 2K and 4K in its desktop app, running through October 15, 2026, without counting against credit balances. Magnific announced its rebrand from Freepik in April, reporting one million paid subscribers, 100 million monthly visits, and $230 million in annual recurring revenue.
Why it matters
The image-generation market has converged on a sameness problem: every tool can render a prompt faithfully, but making output that looks like your brand still takes manual post-production. Brand Kit is the interesting bet here — if it genuinely holds palette, type, and imagery consistent across a whole team’s output, that solves a real production pain point for marketing teams and agencies. The flip side is that “taste as a responsibility” is doing a lot of marketing work; art direction is subjective, and we’d want to see side-by-side comparisons against current leaders before concluding the model’s judgment beats a good prompt. Worth noting, though: Magnific isn’t a startup demoing vaporware — it’s a profitable, hundred-million-visit platform shipping to a real user base today.
