Classroom AI Policy Template

A short, student-friendly policy you can adapt. Edit the bracketed parts, then share it with your class on day one.

Classroom AI Use Policy — adapt freely In this class, AI tools (like ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) are welcome as learning helpers, not replacements for your thinking. ALLOWED: brainstorming ideas, explaining confusing concepts, checking your grammar, and practicing with quiz questions. NOT ALLOWED: submitting AI-written work as your own, using AI during tests or quizzes unless I say so, and sharing other students’ personal information with AI tools. If AI helped you: add a short note at the end of your work, for example: “AI-assisted: used ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas.” Honest citation will never be punished. If AI use is not allowed on an assignment, I will say so clearly. Breaking these rules is treated like any other academic honesty issue: first a conversation and a redo, then [your school’s consequence]. When in doubt, ask me. I would rather answer the question than deal with the accusation.
